Position Overview

Title: RFQ: Nonprofit Consultant, Public Funder Strategy
Classification: RFP
Location and Duration: The location for the consultancy can be New York or remote as the consultant will work primarily with the Director of Development leading Women’s World Banking’s public funder strategy and relationship managers on the Development team who are based in different time zones (PT, EST, GMT).
Duration of Consultancy: The expectation is that to be completed within an approximate timeframe of two to three months. The consultant will be offered a retainer contract in addition to the project contract if the opportunity for follow-on projects emerges.

Position Summary

About the Project

Women’s World Banking is seeking a highly skilled and experienced consultant with expertise in working with and securing funding from public funders. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of large public funder entities (e.g. governments, multilateral development banks), their expectations, requirements, procurement rules and ways of operating - particularly the European Commission, USAID, African Development Bank, Global Affairs Canada and the UK’s FCDO – and strong experience in identifying suitable approaches and concrete steps for partnering with them. Building on an internal assessment conducted by Women’s World Banking to increase the number of partnerships with public funders, the consultant will provide practical guidance for the organization to connect with the right departments/ teams within these institutions and to position the organization successfully as a service provider and partner for them. This role is crucial to operationalizing Women’s World Banking’s strategy to increase revenue from public funding entities as we work to further our mission to advance women’s economic empowerment through financial inclusion.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance for implementing the recommendations from Women’s World Banking’s internal public funder assessment, particularly by reviewing identified prospects and providing feedback on viability and approach for connecting with these prospects, e.g. department/team, regional vs. global level etc.
  • Offer strategic advice on necessary steps Women’s World Banking needs to take to be eligible to bid on tenders and submit proposals (e.g. legal set-up, local registration).
  • Offer concrete suggestions for steps that are necessary to position the organization such that it can attract funding or offer services competitively to key public funder prospects (e.g. to meet rate expectations, explore partnerships, create pitch materials and standard documentation, monitor / register on specific procurement platforms
  • Identify and validate public funding opportunities that align with Women’s World Banking’s mission and goals, targeting grants, contracts and other funding mechanisms
  • Share any trends, knowledge, insights and best practice regarding partnerships with public funder entities that are relevant for Women’s World Banking

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Proven track record of successfully securing funding from public funding entities in different geographies – particularly in Europe, the US, Canada and the UK – for global non-profit organizations / international development work
  • Deep knowledge of public funding entities (incl. government development agencies, foreign ministries, multilateral entities with a particular focus on the European Commission, USAID, Global Affairs Canada and the FCDO), their expectations, decision-making structure, requirements, procurement rules and ways of operating
  • Familiarity with financial inclusion or gender finance a plus
  • Able to think creatively and strategically to identify pathways and concrete steps for Women’s World Banking to successfully position itself as a service provider and partner to public funding entities
  • Proactive, detail- and results-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Experience working in a multilateral and cross-time-zone team to meet
  • Can relate to our organization’s mission and the impact of our work
  • Fluency in English required
