Salary: $70,000-$75,000

Salary range is for candidates based in the New York City Metropolitan area. Outside of the NYC metro, we differentiate salaries based on location.

It is customary for entry-level candidates to join Women’s World Banking at the lower half of the range to leave room for candidates to grow, expand, and develop in the role. It is common for starting salaries to fall in the mid-point of the range for more experienced candidates. We negotiate actual salaries with final candidates based on their exact location, experience in similar roles, and expertise related to the qualifications.

This role is not eligible for hire in Colorado, USA.

Position Summary

Women’s World Banking is looking for an entrepreneurial Strategy Specialist to support the organizational strategy and special project needs for the organization, including strategy development, ongoing assessment of strategy and ad hoc special projects that contribute to the organization’s growth and impact. This is a temporary role with an expected duration of 18 months.

The Strategy and Special Projects Specialist will bring their excellent analytical, project management, and communication and influencing skills to the organization. In partnership with the Global Head of Strategy and Special Projects, the candidate will design an organizational strategy that is financially viable, executable and impact-focused. The Specialist will be responsible for market and industry analysis, assessing partnership models, and ensuring that the strategy workplan is delivered on time. In addition, the Specialist will work across the organization as well as with a strategy working group to deliver a new strategic plan. The Specialist will also own special project ‘sprints’ as needed for the organization and will develop collaborative relationships across all functions in the organization.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience with at least 2 years in a strategy consulting firm supporting development of actionable organizational strategies. You will be adept at taking data and analysis and creating recommendations on the path forward. You will understand the impact of different business models and how different models lead to impact. You will be comfortable taking the lead and driving to conclusion specific workstreams of the overall strategy, implementing strong project management, and bringing a creative and innovative lens to the work. Experience and knowledge of financial services, women’s economic empowerment, financial inclusion, and gender are an added bonus.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of a new organizational strategy
  • Structure and lead problem-solving efforts to address key strategic questions facing the organization.
  • Develop high-quality presentations and reports to effectively communicate strategic recommendations to senior leadership, the Board, and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct in-depth market research, competitive analysis, and benchmarking to inform strategy development.
  • Identify, assess, and structure strategic partnerships, including financial and operational viability.
  • Conduct stakeholder mapping and engagement strategies to ensure organizational alignment.
  • Oversee project management of the entire organizational strategy development process, ensuring timely execution of key milestones.
  • Work closely with regional teams to connect organizational strategy with regional strategic plans and priorities.
  • Conduct internal and external interviews, informational sessions, and knowledge-gathering activities with senior leadership, thought leaders, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Insights & Performance Management team to develop an impact measurement framework for the new strategy.
  • Support business modeling and financial analysis to assess the sustainability and scalability of key initiatives.
  • Drive execution of special projects, including designing and leading cross-functional working groups to solve complex business challenges.
  • Provide strategic insights and recommendations on emerging industry trends and potential opportunities for expansion.
  • Analyze data and present recommendations on opportunities for greater impact

Required Qualifications

  • 2-3+ years in a strategy consulting firm and 3-5+ years overall experience, preferably within financial services or international development
  • Exceptional analytical skills, with experience conducting data-driven decision-making and financial modeling.
  • Ability to translate complex information into clear, concise, and actionable insights (strategic storytelling).
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Market research expertise, including competitive analysis and business model assessment.
  • Excellent PowerPoint and Excel skills.
  • Superior written and presentation skills, with experience delivering insights to senior leadership.
  • Experience in designing new organizational strategies
  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background working in global organizations
  • Knowledge of impact measurement
  • Knowledge of international development funding landscape as well as nonprofit financial models
  • Interest in women’s economic empowerment
  • Financial modeling and scenario planning expertise.
  • Experience in change management and organizational transformation initiatives.

Measure of Success

Within the first 75 days:

  • Assume full responsibility for the role
  • Understand the current strategy and its impact and create project plan for new strategy development
  • Develop collaborative relationships across the organization
  • Lead internal strategy working group
  • Learn and use internal planning tools such as HIVE and Salesforce
