Women’s World Banking President and CEO Mary Ellen Iskenderian is speaking at an event at Chatham House in London on June 12, 2014 entitled “Unlocking the Potential: Promoting Women’s Financial Inclusion in Africa.” She will be joined by Craig Churchill, Chief of Social Finance Programme, International Labour Organization (ILO).
Event Description
Increasing women’s access to finance and financial services is crucial for development and sustainable growth. Women have a higher propensity to save and reinvest in education, child care and health, benefitting their families and communities. The benefits gained are increasingly crucial as many African countries are confronted with the challenges of significant population growth. However, women’s inclusion in the formal economy and access to finance remain low.
The expert panel will examine the challenges and potential of improving access to finance for women in Africa. They will discuss the importance of best practice in financial services provision for equitable development in African countries.
