This report provides an analysis of the levels of financial awareness, financial behaviors, and economic empowerment of women factory workers in Cambodia. The findings are based on a survey of 2,781 female research participants, a majority of whom are migrants from rural or remote areas and all of whom are factory workers.
These workers tend to have encouragingly high access to smartphones and a low-to-medium level of digital literacy. However, these levels of digital access and literacy have not translated into wide use of digital financial services. Working with digital wallet provider Wing and the factories which employ Wing’s customers, Women’s World Banking surveyed women workers to better understand their financial needs, habits, and health.
